Rights Day, the campaign calls on individuals and groups around the world to
act to end all forms of violence against women and girls.
Making the critical link between violence against women and human rights, the 16 Days Campaign has been used by individuals and groups around the world to take action for the elimination of all forms of violence against women. This includes raising awareness about gender based violence through organizing talks, seminar and various other initiatives such as walks, exhibitions, drama and so on. As more and more people take part in the 16 Days campaign the solidarity of people around the world organizing against violence against women continues to grow. Over 4,100 organizations in approximately 172 countries have participated in the annual 16 Days Campaign since 1991! In Malaysia, national police statistics have shown that in 2011 there were approximately 8 reports of domestic violence and 17 reports of sexual assault made DAILY. It is estimated that most of such crimes go unreported and many women and girls do not access the help they need. |
